The Final Panzer Campaigns Gold Upgrades

Hi All,

Hooray, finally the Panzer Campaigns Desert titles have been upgraded to Gold standard!

Following on from the Gold Updates to Sicily ’43 and Salerno ’43, we have completed the remainder of the Mediterranean titles.

We’re happy to release Tobruk ’41 Gold, El Alamein ’42 Gold and Tunisia ’43 Gold.

Tobruk ’41 Gold covers the various attempts to either take or relieve this desert fortress during 1941. El Alamein ’42 Gold covers the continuing struggle in 1942 in Libya and Egypt with the battles around Gazala and El Alamein as centrepieces. All the major engagements in 1942 are included.  Tunisia ’43 Gold is the final volume in the North Africa trilogy. Featuring the final North African battles in Tunisia; the advance on Tunis, the counterattack at Kasserine Pass and breaching of the Mareth line are all featured. A true plethora of forces are included with esoteric units such as the German Arab league in game.

All come with the standard upgrades we have done for the Gold series;

The game code will now be standardized on the JTS codebase. There will be no further support for the HPS versions

All new and expanded game maps

All new 2D & 3D map graphics

All new unit graphics and counters on map

All new unit cards

All new in game sounds; weapon, explosion, background and miscellaneous

All released Volcano Man scenarios

New ‘modern’ toolbar icons

Code update – disruption no longer halves movement during the day and is reduced by one third at night.

Code update – reinforcement ‘place all’ has been migrated across from the First World War Campaign series.

New national rules covering fatigue and surrender.

In addition to the above, El Alamein ’42 Gold includes a heap of new content. The Volcano Man expansion pack covers 11 scenarios from the British 1940 Compass offensive. A brand-new Operation Venezia scenario (Gazala operation) is included created by Brian Jennings. Finally, César ‘Indragnir’ Librán Moreno has included his take on the 2nd Battle of EL Alamein. Brian has previously provided new campaigns in Minsk ’44 Gold and Bulge ’44 Gold, César has previously added new scenarios in Kharkov ’42 Gold, Salerno ’43 Gold and Korsun ’44 Gold. We’re thankful for all the content we have received from our contributors.

  • To mark the close of the colossal task of upgrading the PzC series to gold status. I extend my sincere gratitude and praise to all who were involved in this project.

Your effort and dedication to seeing this task through has breathed new life into these JTS simulations and enhanced the longevity of the user experience.

    Bravo!

  • Hi guys, love the work I’m coming back to wargaming after many years (I started with Avalon Hill and SPI in 1972) I’m thinking of buying some JTS games and had a quick question – are all the ‘gold’ ones updated and will any non-‘gold’ games bought from the JTS store now be updated for free in the future to ‘gold’ graphics?

    Many thanks SIMON

    • Simon,

All the Panzer Campaign games are now Gold standard. If you buy them from the store you will get a Gold Build. All the American Civil War titles are also updated other than Overland. The Panzer Battles titles will have patches bringing them up to North Africa standard in the next couple of months. All other series are under review for updates in terms of graphics and possibly more content and if you own the title any patches released will be free.

      Hope that helps,

      David

  • I think what you chaps at WDS have accomplished with the Gold releases, is simply marvelous ! Huzzah !

  • I’m a bit confused. For some reason I’m not getting updated on this blog, so I re-registered. I had no idea the west/south front PC Gold was available.

I’m a bit confused again on the updates. I installed East Front Gold versions and got new icons for desktop, and new versions went to new GOLD folder, like a new install. But I received emails for these and downloaded from that. The South and West Front updates I did not get emails with links and after learning Gold updates available much later, I got them directly from JTS website from update page, but they just updated my old install folders, did not create new GOLD folders, and no new desktop icons. They were still Gold versions when I ran them, I was just a bit confused as to why the difference, why no new icons, why no new Gold folder?

Then I discovered the Japan ’45 PC game was now available. Oh happy day, I bought immediately, but again, I had no clue this was available, never received email. Oh well, that is a JTS PC game, not a PB game, maybe that is the reason I never got the notice? What ever, something seems a tad off.

Regardless, I am delighted all the West and South Front PC titles are Gold now! OUTSTANDING job! Thank you very much from the fans. Looking forward to future PB titles. Whatever they are, I’m buying. You guys rock! Keep them coming!

  • Don’t need to post this.

Okay, I finally found out why I’m having so much grief, but not out of the woods. The email updates provided links to msi files which installed a new directory, a new game per say. So that went smooth.

On JTS site I only get exe to update current installed products, and I’m having quite a head ache with each one. Always something the update complains about. A file I have to delete manually, or a directory that does not exist in old version. It is extremely annoying doing the update path. It is working with constantly “fixing” each update complaint manually and re-running the exe multiple times. This is so annoying. I much rather go the msi route and re-install gold and get rid of my old installs. The JTS update path is not going so well at all. Every West/South front PC Gold update is complaining about something on previous version update.

I’m thinking this is due to mods previously installed (been years and can’t remember what got updated where) and msi method is just fresh install. But previous version exe’s from JTS update site installed with no problems, but that doesn’t cover all the files and gold is a significant graphic update, which mods touched a lot.

Still don’t know why I never got an email update with msi link like I got for all the East Front PC titles. That is strange. Wish I could have avoided my update path head aches. Nothing I can’t fix, but what a lot of annoyance. Delete this file, create this directory, etc. Man, I’m getting another beer!!!

    FYI.

    • Garry,

I have posted all your comments as they bring up some good points. To be honest the error is mine. We should never have bought in the new ‘Gold’ directory as it is causing the exact angst you are seeing. The issue, as you highlight is that using the full installers creates a new ‘Gold’ directory, but using the patches for prior version uses the original Gold directory. We’re working through what is the best way going forward, but all updates for other series (Modern Campaigns, Squad Battles etc), will stick to the original directories and there won’t be Gold versions for those.

As far as deleting directories etc (primarily Media) as suggested for the updates, we now have a way to automate that to remove the additional steps.

As far as the MSI links – they were only sent out to people with HPS versions. If you had the original JTS versions, then the updates were sufficient. If you had HPS versions of the Western Front titles, you can ask Support for the MSI versions.

Apologies again, but the challenges created were my fault.

  • Most recent update for PzC Alamein 42. Quick chek of German units shows no Pzlll-J (lang) or PzIII-L. PzIII with long L/60 ( derived from 5-cm Pak 38) approximated almost 50% of PzIIIs during the Alamein battles.

Keep up the great work, fellas.
